The film deals with an issue which has been increasingly predominant in Greece during the recent years of economic crisis: the prevalence of psychological depressive disorders. Witnessing the personal experiences of patients of all ages and social backgrounds who grapple with the problem, we give a tangible and definite form to the abstract notion of Melancholia. At the same time, doctors and nursing staff working in mental care facilities relate to us their daily struggle as they take care of patients while they themselves try to cope with the crisis in their own lives.

For 40 years now Express Scopelitis is the soul of Aegean Sea. We sail with her, watching the sailors’ life onboard and winter life on the islands. The film is a praise to a life lived between heaven and sea. It balances on the edge between reality and transcendence, the same way that seamen’s lives balance, with great effort, between land and sea.

In today’s Ethiopia of 85 million citizens, thousands of children end up in orphanages each year, relinquished by parents who are unable to raise them or found abandoned by the police even a few days after they are born. These institutions offer them shelter and education until they are adopted, usually by foster parents from abroad. The film records daily life behind the closed gates of one of these orphanages, in which a hard-working staff of nannies, nurses and volunteers takes care of about fifty children aged from a few months to 12 years. Filmed in its entirety as cinéma-vérité, based on direct observation, it explores the complex fabric of the diverse, transient community that lives isolated in this home away from home.
